I need a new pillow..or do I??

I begrudgingly got it in my head that I need a new pillow. My old pillow is about 5yrs old or so and when I bought It, it  was quite expensive.   But I split the cost of it with someone else and it was on a 2 for one deal but still expensive.  The old one doesnt give me as much support that I would want anymore and I need to change it up.  However now they have these self adjusting foam pillows where you can take out some of the fill out and put more in if you need according to how full you want your pillow.   I picture myself with a pillow like this and as my neck is so finicky I can just see myself waking up and trying to adjust it and then going back to sleep and in the morning waking to having the pillow filling all over the place.  Then I looked online and cervical pillow assortment just blows the mind they have some that cuddle your head, others that are in the shape of candy canes, others that have an indent in the middle of the pillow kind of in the shape of a lightbulb where your head and neck go right into that spot.  Then there are cooling pillows, bio-soy pillows, charcoal pillows, memory foam pillows, down pillows, down-alternative pillows, hypoallergenic pillows.  Let alone pillows by the type of sleeper you are.  All I wanted from this extensive search was “The Pillow” .  The one that would be the exact match for my picky body,   the one that when you rest your head, it would be simply perfect and not cost an arm and a leg.  I asked chiro and Physio for recommendations and they both said it’s going to be trial and error. In comes the buckwheat pillow… as per reviews it claims to be a pretty good side sleeper it is an adjustable fill pillow weighing in at 4lbs this pillow snap crackled and popped (that’s the sound the fill makes) it’s on my bed for 2 days.  I didn’t need to swap it out as it was pretty neat that it did adjust to my head.  It was quite hard but I was able to sleep on it I did feel quite blah day 2 but I wasn’t sure what it was from as I attributed it to something else.  Until I went to see my physio and he said what is wrong ??   I’m like, I just feel ewww.   My arms are sore from the shoulders down.  My shoulders, elbows and wrists hurt, told him I went for a walk the other day and I felt like crap.  So he adds well your arms aren’t swinging !!! Your left shoulder won’t move.  What could be cause all of this I asked? Poor sleep position!!!  That was the end of pillow #1. Bye Buckwheat pillow!  Hello memory foam pillow again the reviews  tell me that this pillow will give me the best night of sleep ever, magically relieving pain in all the right places ok lets give you a shot but before i do…lets first check if it’s refundable, yup.   Order placed we will see what happens with this one when it comes in!  So pillow # 2 comes in and we get it out of the box as it is memory foam it says it needs 72hr  to grow to full potential.   I gave it less than 24hrs and I knew it was going to be too soft so off to the return pillow pile it went. When they say the 3rd time’s the charm I was hoping this was going to be the case with me

I was almost feeling like the kids story with the princess and the pea but instead of mattresses it’s pillows!!  So I get this pillow and first thing is it’s already thicker and firmer then #2 that’s a good sign. So I let it air out and grow for 24hrs as the rules state and this one is already fatter than my old pillow.  We got to sleep on it and it’s not too bad a bit of neck discomfort but nothing too bad and it’s only on one side the flare bear has no other complaints. We manage to make it through the night switching out the pillow 2 times. Hmmm not bad …next night only once.    I’m not getting my hopes up because sleeping with PT tape is a different ballgame and I might just toss this one out the window.   I lay down and holy cow! NO neck discomfort or anything I slept all night on my new pillow and no complaints in the morning.   To sum it all up a comparison as per flare bear:   buckwheat pillow – feels like sleeping on concrete  // medium-firm memory foam pillow – don’t waste my time too soft // very supportive memory foam with cooling gel – We like it a lot !!
