WALK, walk, walk…HD Walk

As I was the organizer of my HD walk team I didn’t feel that I couldn’t just not show up for the walk.  Hubby knew that even suggesting that would have been out of the question.  So we packed up the walker and off we went and did our duty.   Found out that our Calgary contingent by the same name was growing by the last minute.   It was great, we ended up have 33 people do the walk as well as many 4 legged friends…because why not bring them too!!   I ended up staying behind as I couldn’t do it but ended up helping out in other ways.   It was a great day and a very inspirational day as well to see other people come out.  However, everyone was asking who were all the people wearing blue?   I proudly stated that those are my people and made sure to note that we had another bunch out west doing the walk as well. I am very humbled and honored by all of them. Some of them only knew me as the mom of my son or daughter but I made damn sure to go around and personally thank them for giving their time and walking with us.  The businesses that supported us also got a personal thanks from me along with pictures from the walk so that if they wanted they could share it with their fellow co-workers.  They would see my people, my sea of blue shirts, kids with purple shirts (for juvenile HD), and dogs wearing blue bandanas.  This is my support system when and if I need it.

So I started to walk a lot more after surgery and  the summer’s been a hot one but I go out to the trail by our house and walk. I try to walk 5k every morning during the week.   It’s become a habit …set alarm, brush teeth, drink water, dress, and go.  Approximately 60mins later you come back all nice and sweaty ready for a shower and whatever the day has scheduled.   Every week I have a physio appointment, every 2 weeks chiropractor, every month is massage, and evil nerve block/migraine Dr. (he’s my neurologist by the way) appointment.  Once in a while you get a smattering something else in between but for now this is me.  A while back in November everyone heard me say how not having a car is like being imprisoned.  My husband and I tried sharing a car and I mean it was ok but it was not at the same time.   At some point when you wake up to drive your husband to work and the number on the clock to the left of the two dots (:) is a 4 it’s time to stop the madness! We broke down and ordered a car at Easter weekend and we had to wait as they needed to build it and ship it.  I patiently waited while my hubby teased me about the status of it. Getting stuck in BC at the border strike, they forgot to load it on a train, they sent the wrong color. Yadda, yadda, yadda, I heard it all…..and then I got the call I was waiting for.   Your vehicle has arrived please come to the dealership and sign the papers.   Oh wow, sweet freedom has arrived!!  Yes indeed it has and when I drove that car off the lot to go home I was over the moon happy. You do not know how much value of life and FREEDOM that one simple thing can give a person. No more asking for rides from anyone.   I can go anywhere I want anytime I want and I don’t need to wake up at 4am (I love you honey) to drive him to work.  Unless I want to see the sunrise and the moon go to bed (trust me both are breathtaking) but I will do that on my own terms!
